Since this is my last weekend at home, I figured I would share with you one of my favorite creations that I’ve been loving all summer. Enter, the Green Smoothie Bowl. This green smoothie bowl is one of summer’s simplest pleasures that I cannot get enough of. It’s natural, nutritious, and wholesome, and quite delicious as well! Fits all the requirements in my book- two thumbs up!
The endless combinations that you can create also means that it’s quite impossible to get bored of this magical creation. Sadly, it’s something that I can only enjoy when I’m home, so I’m taking advantage of summer’s bounty in an effort to satisfy all of my green smoothie cravings before I leave.
My standard go-to recipe consists of frozen bananas and blueberries, some baby kale and spinach, and almond milk! The key to the thick consistency that allows this smoothie to be eaten with a spoon rather than a straw is using FROZEN fruit!
If I know that I want a green smoothie bowl for my breakfast, then I will go ahead and prepare my fruit the night before and place it in the freezer. This step of freezing the fruit makes all the difference.
And if the ease of the prep work or the wholesomeness of the ingredients doesn’t convince you to give this recipe a try, hopefully the simplicity of making the actual smoothie will! Having all the fruit prepared and ready to go is such a huge time-saver. All you need to do in the morning is place everything in a blender, give it a quick whirl, and you’re good to go! A simple hack to make your mornings a little less hectic- because honestly, that’s what we all wish for.
If you’re feeling fancy, or you have extra time to spare in the morning, I love to add some toppings to my bowl and make it look pretty. For today’s bowl, I decided to sprinkle on some of my homemade pumpkin spiced granola, sliced kiwi, frozen bluebs, and hemp seeds. Just like how the smoothie combinations are endless, so are the topping options!
Out of all my favorite “home” foods (those that are too complicated or too time consuming to recreate at school), the Green Smoothie Bowl tops my list. It will be missed!
- 1/2 banana, frozen
- 1/2 cup blueberries, frozen
- 1 handful spinach
- 1 handful baby kale
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1. Place the ingredients into a blender/VitaMix/Nutri Bullet in the order that they are listed.
- 2. Blend until everything is thoroughly combined.
- 3. Pour into a bowl and top with your favorite toppings!
