The Blue Balloon

For the past week and a half, I have been traveling around Spain and Portugal for Spring Break with some of my best friends from my study abroad program.

With so many stories and adventures to share, I figured it would be easiest to split up my Spring Break recap posts.  Hopefully you’ll be able to get a glimpse into what life has been like for the past week or so through these posts- lots of food, fun, and traveling, for sure 🙂 Enjoy!

We saw many people as we biked along the boardwalk in Barcelona a few days ago, but the most humbling experience took place when we encountered this little boy and his father.

The blue balloon captivated that little boy with such allure and excitement characteristic of the magic we used to believe in childhood that we couldn’t help but revel in the same sense of levity. There wasn’t anything better than to see his whole face light up, and for the amount of happiness that he experienced upon receiving that balloon, we experienced the same feeling-the only difference was that the magnitude was multiplied tenfold.

Lesson learned: when you give without expecting anything in return, you’ll soon realize that the act of giving is a grand reward in it of itself.
